I’ve been in an endless journey across the universe meeting people as countless as the stars with different attitudes and perceptions in life. Like the stars, some will explode, turn into a black hole, and tries to drag you with them to their miserable life; while others who already reached their goal and dream will stay in the clear night sky shining like a diamond and give people a very magnificent view. Both are stars, but right or wrong, have a very strong force of influence to people around them.
Imagine how one star(right or wrong) can convert how people in this world see reality. Imagine how one star can change a certain norm in a big or small community.
Life is sometimes just a simple true or false for me, where there are only two choices, one is correct, and one is wrong. The answer of an individual to that “True or False” question in life doesn’t and shall not depend on others, but shall only depend on his own perspective and conscience. But still, some people still answer the question incorrectly; maybe because they’ve been dragged by a black hole, or they were the black hole from the start.
As a part of my blog about good things, I want to share this poem entitled “Imagine” made by me when I was still in high school. It’s about imagining what our world could be if positive auras fill our world.
What if nobody was abandoned?
And what if the knowledge was absorbed?
We could live without remorse,
We could love with the feelings expose.
If everyone tried and nobody cried,
If everyone who denied swallows their pride,
If nobody lied and we’re all glorified,
Then, we’ll be tied up and satisfied.
Look at the world where we live in,
most of us live with a sinister skin.
But there will be light, it will gleam.
In the stray of hope, we’ll work as a team.
What If everyone loved their adversary?
Then, we’ll live altogether so happily.
What If they were united like you and me?
Then, Imagine what our world could be.
Let’s all do good. Let’s all be one of the good stars. Together with them, let’s unite and create one big good constellation and make a fascinating view at the universe per se.
Can you believe that a balut vendor namely Emerson Paguia turns himself to a Web Developer? How? What can determination do to change an individual’s state of living?
A simple determination and having compassion to reach his dream made the life of Emerson Paguia to change. Every time he sells balut, he’s also saving money so he can use a computer in computer shops just to search for available scholarships. One day, he saw a post about Web Development by Informatics College. His desire to learn suddenly made him grab that chance. Emerson has his own family. The money he gets or saves from selling balut only goes for the education of his child; which leaves him no money when going to Informatics College, but that didn’t stop him! He said to himself, “Kung kaya ko maglakad ng tatlo hangang apat na oras sa pagtitinda ng balut, siguro kaya ko din maglakad papasok at pauwi galing sa pinapasukan ko.”
He walks for three and a half hour to go to school and another three and a half hour to go back in his home at Angono, Rizal. Emerson now works at Informatics as a Web Developer with pride and gladness.
There are only few Filipinos that we know that overcome or experienced this situation. We all know Manila’s Vice Mayor, Isko Moreno, who was used to pick and collect piles of recyclable and reusable garbage to help his family to stop their burden. Another is Manny V. Pangilinan, the well-known businessman and one of the richest people here in our country, whose family was not that capable in supporting him in his studies.
Imagine what our country can be, if everyone has the attitude just like Emerson’s. Reaching success is not easy. Determination and having the desire to change his/her state of living is the key to success. When I listened to the story of Emerson, I was shocked when I heard that he walks from Rizal to Eastwood. With that determination, no one will ever fail reaching their dreams. On the other hand, if some people will stay lazy and not contended in what they have, they’ll just be like an undiscovered constellation in the galaxy full of stars and will remain undiscovered unless they show that they deserve to become one of the beautiful constellations in the sky.
You are your own key to success. You just need to find the right path and never give up in any obstacle that you’ll encounter.

Since I’m a fourth year student, I’ve applied to many universities and one of it is Ateneo. I want to be an atenista someday even if they don’t have my preferred course(mechanical engineering). So anyway, Ateneo needs an essay of their applicant even before the actual test. Keep in mind that the actual test has an essay question too. That’s why before qualifying in Ateneo, you’ll be writing down two essays. In order for them to get to know us better, we need to answer a question in the form of an essay. They do not change the question that’s why the question from the previous years remains the same until now. So anyway, here’s my rushed essay
“Are there any significant experiences you had, or accomplishments you have realized, that have helped to define you as a person?”
I’m usually an introverted person. I’d rather hold my pen and let its ink flow as it synchronize with the rhythm of my hand than to join my friends’ weekly hang outs. Throughout every problems I have encountered, my character helped me to be the person I am today.
I think a lot especially when I’m alone. I always think about ideas, but eventually, some of my thoughts disappear and pop like bubbles. It’s probably because of the many things that run in my mind. My thoughts are like undiscovered constellation disdained because of the countless stars present in my mind.
Despite my agoraphobic character, I still can make friends like an average person. Making friends is quite natural to me even if they don’t have any idea that there are stars colliding deep inside my head. I always think more and say less.
Whenever I have a problem, I think of it as an obstacle. An obstacle I can get through no matter how big it is. I believe that problems are puzzles which can be solved by those who persist and can never be solved by those who quit. I’m quite an optimist and that’s why I don’t always struggle whenever I have problems.
But then, I realized something. Facing the mirror, I asked myself, “Who am I?” I realized that I can’t find myself. My thoughts made me who I am, but they also lead to doubts about who I really am. My thoughts lead me nowhere because they are just locked in a specific thing: a cage. I am only concerned with the inner world and maybe, that’s why I can’t find myself. I need to go out in my cell and explore the wonders of the real world.
That is where I am, the real world. I had been so inclined to my thoughts that I didn’t even consider that there is a world outside the universe of my thoughts where I can find who I really am.
I can see myself there. I can see my self under the flashes of the spectrum of light, writing an essay and thinking how his thoughts gave his life colors.
I didn’t write the essay for the Ateneo form. I wrote the essay for myself. It’s rushed. I apologize for any grammatical errors present in the essay. I know that I’m not a skilled writer. Ha ha ha! I hope I can improve my writing and grammar skills!
